Mining Industry Safety and Health
Audit (MISHA)
The Mining Industry Safety and Health Audit (MISHA) reviews
every aspect of a company's health and safety program. MISHA
was developed specifically for the mining industry in Ontario.
Ten mining specific elements (referred to as “modules”)
are examined:
- General
- Fire protection and emergency preparedness
- Workplace access and protection of workers
- Transportation
- Explosives
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Shaft/hoisting operations
- Working environment and ventilation
- Ground control and slope stability
In each module, the audit measures aspects like training
conducted, purchasing, managing and planning, and communication.
In order to maintain the quality and integrity of the audit
and its findings, the MISHA can only be carried out under
a site license, and by an auditor trained by MASHA.
Pricing
The cost of the audit is $1,290 plus GST per site for Ontario-based
member companies, and $2,700 plus GST for non-member firms.
This cost includes:
- Site license allowing use of the audit by the company,
- Training for one auditor,
- One copy of audit materials.
Additional auditors can be trained for $790 for MASHA member
companies and $1,200 for non-members. Additional audit materials
are available if needed. Please contact Jean
Chadbourn for information.
Copyright
All MISHA materials are copyrighted by MASHA. They may
not be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transcribed
in any form or by any means – electronic, mechanical,
photocopy, recording or otherwise – without the prior
written permission of MASHA.
How to get started with MISHA
- When you express interest in the Mining Industry Safety
and Health Audit, you will be sent three documents:
- Registration form for auditor training
- Sample application form for site license
- Order form for training and site license.
- Review the sample application to be sure you understand
the agreement between MASHA and the company. Complete the
registration form and order form and send them, with full
payment to MASHA. Pre-payment must be received for both
the training and the site license.
- You will receive confirmation of your registration for
training.
- During the training session, the auditor-trainee will
receive an application for a site license. This must be
completed and returned to MASHA. MASHA will send back your
approved application, with a license certificate and a certificate
for the completed training.
