Research on static and dynamic behaviour of ground support tendons
Designing ground support in an underground mine means matching the ground support elements with the anticipated behaviour of the rock mass. A research project identified and supported by MASHA’s Ground Control Technical Advisory Committee was completed by CANMET’s Mining Research Laboratories during 2007 and 2008. CANMET reviewed the world literature and prepared a number of datasheets containing static and dynamic data for various ground support tendons. This information may be used in the design of ground support systems in underground mines.
Individual sections of the researchers’ final report may be downloaded from this page.
This research on ground support tendons was funded by Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Several gaps in knowledge were identified during the project; the proposal for a follow-up study consists of a number of impact tests at CANMET’s dynamic testing facilities in Ottawa.
